Book an appointmentImplantology
An implant, or dental implant, is a permanent and safe solution for replacing missing teeth. It is designed to replace the root of a lost tooth or to serve as support for a crown, bridge or partially removable dental prosthesis.
When is an implant the right choice?
- when one tooth is missing, where the implant is completed with an abutment and a ceramic crown,
- when several teeth are missing and an implant-supported bridge can be made,
- when all teeth in the jaw are missing, where solutions such as All-on-4, a bar-retained denture or locator-retained denture may be suitable,
- when poor denture stability makes normal eating difficult,
- when we want to replace a tooth without grinding down healthy adjacent teeth.
How is the planning carried out?
Before every implant placement, we perform an examination and a 3D scan. This allows us to assess the width, height and quality of the bone, the position of the nerves and to choose the appropriate implant. Based on the scan, we also assess whether artificial bone grafting or sinus floor elevation will be needed during the procedure.
The implant placement process
- the procedure usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the case,
- dental implants are placed under local anesthesia, so the patient does not feel pain during the procedure,
- swelling and mild pain may occur after the procedure,
- after placement, smoking, alcohol, pressure on the implant site and greater physical effort are not recommended,
- the implant usually integrates with the bone in approximately 3 to 4 months,
- after successful integration, prosthetic restoration, impression taking and fabrication of the final replacement follow.
Important for long-term success
In our clinic, we use implants from the globally recognized Straumann brand. After implant placement, regular check-ups and professional cleanings are necessary, as this ensures the stability of the implant in the bone and the long-term health of the surrounding tissues.
Prosthetics and implant prosthetics
Prosthetics restores lost tooth structure, replaces missing teeth and improves function, aesthetics and comfort when chewing. The solution is chosen based on the condition of the teeth, bite, periodontal tissues and the patient’s wishes.
Possible solutions
- ceramic crowns,
- dental bridges,
- implant-supported restorations – implant prosthetics,
- custom-made dentures,
- aesthetic restoration of damaged teeth.
Dental bridge and crown
The loss of one or more teeth does not only affect confidence, but can also cause the remaining teeth to shift, changes in the bite, more difficult hygiene and a higher risk of oral diseases. A dental bridge is a common prosthetic solution for filling tooth gaps and consists of connected crowns and one or more intermediate units.
At least two healthy and strong teeth next to the gap are used as bridge supports. If only one tooth is missing and the remaining teeth are healthy, a dental implant is often a more suitable solution, because the adjacent teeth do not need to be ground down.
Inlay and onlay
Inlays and onlays are prosthetic restorations for teeth damaged by decay, larger fillings or injuries. They are used as a less invasive alternative to a crown, because only the damaged part of the tooth is removed, while healthy tooth structure is preserved as much as possible.
An inlay is placed between the cusps of the tooth, while an onlay is larger and also covers one or more tooth cusps. They can be made of composite or ceramic, fit the tooth well and have a long lifespan with proper hygiene.
The goal of prosthetics
The goal is to create a functional, comfortable and aesthetic solution that matches your bite and the natural appearance of your teeth. When making bridges and crowns, we also use digital impressions with an intraoral scanner in our clinic.
Treatment of an edentulous jaw
In complete tooth loss, the goal is to restore stability, quality chewing, speech, a beautiful appearance and a sense of security in everyday life. The solution is chosen based on the condition of the bone, soft tissues, general health and the patient’s expectations.
Solutions for an edentulous jaw
- implant-supported denture,
- bar-retained denture,
- fixed All-on-4 or All-on-6 solution,
- individually planned prosthetic rehabilitation.
All-on-4 and All-on-6
All-on-4 or All-on-6 is a fixed solution for replacing all teeth in one or both jaws. The teeth are fixed onto dental implants, which avoids many problems of traditional removable dentures, such as poor stability, slipping and pressure sores.
This solution is suitable for patients who are not satisfied with full dentures, have failing fixed bridges or are not satisfied with the appearance and function of their teeth. From both an aesthetic and functional point of view, it is a very high-quality solution.
Bar-retained or locator-retained denture
In addition to the fixed All-on-4 or All-on-6 solution, a removable implant-supported denture is also possible. With this solution, the denture is attached to and supported by implants, so it is stable, does not move and does not cause pressure, while the patient removes it daily for cleaning.
Advantages of implant-supported dentures
- new teeth look and function more like natural teeth,
- the denture does not move during speaking and chewing,
- the need for daily adhesive use with a standard full denture is eliminated,
- with good hygiene and regular check-ups, implants are a very durable solution.
Teeth whitening
Professional teeth whitening in our clinic is performed with custom-made trays. Whitening is individually adapted to your needs, and before starting, an examination and assessment of suitability for the procedure are required.
Before starting whitening
Before professional whitening, decay must be removed and any gum inflammation must be treated. Once the condition of the teeth is suitable, we take impressions and use them to make individual whitening trays.
How does the procedure work?
- first, you arrange an examination and assessment of suitability for whitening,
- before starting, decay and gum inflammation are treated if necessary,
- we take impressions of your teeth,
- we make individual whitening trays,
- with the help of the trays, you apply the whitening gel to your teeth,
- teeth usually whiten over a period of 1 to 3 weeks.
Whitening of a single tooth
A single discolored tooth can also be whitened. In such cases, it is essential to determine the cause of discoloration and adapt the whitening method accordingly. If the cause is poor endodontic treatment, the tooth must first be retreated endodontically before whitening.
Important after whitening
The durability of the new shade also depends on food, drinks and habits. Red wine, coffee, curry and cigarettes can affect tooth discoloration again.
Oral surgery
Oral surgery includes procedures such as tooth and wisdom tooth extraction, apicoectomy, sinus lift and bone preparation for implant treatment. Procedures are planned based on an examination, X-ray diagnostics and the patient’s anatomical characteristics.
Surgical procedures
- wisdom tooth removal,
- surgical tooth removal,
- apicoectomy,
- sinus lift,
- bone preparation for implant treatment.
Tooth and wisdom tooth extraction
Wisdom teeth are most often removed when they are positioned unfavorably, do not have enough space for normal growth, cause recurring pain or inflammation, or when deep decay appears on them. The procedure is almost always performed under local anesthesia, so it is painless, although the patient may feel pressure.
Appropriate techniques and instruments are used during extraction to minimize damage to the surrounding soft tissues and bone. In certain cases, the tooth must be sectioned into several parts and the wound sutured after the procedure.
Apicoectomy, sinus lift and bone augmentation
Apicoectomy is a surgical procedure in which the tip of the root is removed and the inflammation is cleaned. Before performing it, it is necessary to check whether the procedure is feasible based on the position of the sinuses, nasal cavity and nerves, which we assess with CBCT imaging.
A sinus lift is a surgical procedure in which we lift the floor of the maxillary sinus and add bone tissue or a bone substitute to the upper jaw. The procedure provides sufficient bone foundation for implant placement. When there is not enough bone, bone augmentation can also be performed before or during implant placement.
After a surgical procedure
After the procedure, it is important to follow the instructions received at the clinic. Cooling with compresses, avoiding hot food and drinks, and careful hygiene according to the instructions of the dentist or surgeon are usually recommended.
Preventive care
Preventive care is the foundation of long-term dental and gum health. With regular check-ups, professional tartar removal and timely treatment of periodontal problems, we can prevent more serious complications in the oral cavity.
Preventive services
- regular check-ups,
- professional tartar removal,
- gum examination,
- oral hygiene advice,
- fillings,
- recognition of early changes on teeth – decay, periodontal disease...
Tartar and professional cleaning
Tartar forms from soft dental plaque, which turns into hard deposits due to minerals in saliva. Soft plaque can be removed at home with a toothbrush, dental floss and interdental brushes, but tartar cannot be removed at home, so professional cleaning is required.
Tartar, together with soft dental plaque, is one of the main factors in the development of inflamed gums and periodontal disease. We remove it with ultrasonic instruments, and after cleaning, tooth polishing or air-flow cleaning is often recommended to remove soft plaque and discoloration caused by coffee, tea, smoking or other dark-colored drinks.
Periodontal disease
Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammation of the tissues surrounding the teeth, which can begin with bleeding gums during brushing, gum recession and tooth mobility. Today, it can be effectively stopped, but it is much more difficult to cure completely. Patients with periodontal disease usually need check-ups and cleaning every 3 to 6 months.
Recommendation
For most patients, tartar removal is recommended at least twice a year. The frequency of cleaning depends on the condition of the teeth, gums, the presence of periodontal disease and the patient’s individual needs.
Invisible orthodontics
Invisible orthodontics is a modern method of straightening teeth with clear, removable trays (aligners), an alternative to metal braces, without wires and metal in the mouth.
How does the therapy work?
The aligners are custom-made and allow unrestricted eating and easier oral hygiene maintenance. Regardless of age, proper tooth positioning makes hygiene easier and contributes to better jaw functionality.
Who is it intended for?
Invisible orthodontics is suitable for patients who want a discreet and comfortable solution for straightening their teeth. Therapy is always planned individually based on the bite, tooth position and expected results.
Key advantages
- invisibility: the appliance is practically invisible, ensuring high aesthetics during treatment,
- comfort,
- removability: the aligners can be removed for cleaning and eating, which increases comfort,
- usually shorter therapy compared with fixed orthodontic braces,
- digital impression and the possibility of projecting your smile.
Advantages
- no wires or metal elements in the mouth,
- high aesthetics throughout the entire treatment,
- individually custom-made aligners,
- precise planning with a digital impression.
